Emily Remsen- Secretary

I am very honored to serve as the board secretary of the ARK Foundation—a cause that's incredibly close to my heart. After spending the last decade teaching and working on program design in a variety of school and community program settings targeted towards including children of all abilities, I have now turned my career towards partnering with families and educators to create supportive, individualized learning environments, filled with individualized resources, as an IEP advocate and educational therapist in private practice. 

I'm passionate about building inclusive communities where individuals of all abilities can thrive. With a background in Communication Sciences and Disorders and Liberal Studies (education) through a bachelors, masters, and credential program from the University of Redlands, I've dedicated my career to helping families navigate the educational system and advocate for the unique needs of their children. I’m grateful to also bring perspective from a variety of training experiences ranging from Orton-Gillingham and SPELL-Talk to Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI Practitioner) and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE Qualified Educator).

While having met and worked with countless families experiencing tough medical journeys, the need for supportive programs, like the ARK Foundation, now hits close to home after experiencing an extended NICU stay after the birth of my now thriving preemie. At the core of everything I do is a belief in the inherent worth of every individual as they work towards their highest level of independence—and a commitment to honoring that worth through independence, inclusion, and the feeling of success.

When I am not at work or volunteering with my church, I spend my time hiking, eating, and running with my dog, husband, and daughter. Blessed to be an Orange County native, I love to explore the trails our mountains, beaches and deserts offer in Southern California and wherever my travels may take me (most often throughout Western Montana).
