Genetic Testing Funding Guidelines

The ARK Foundation understands that genetic testing can be essential in identifying the underlying causes of complex, rare, or chronic medical conditions. These tests often guide diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management, yet they are not always fully covered by insurance. Our goal is to help families access these medically necessary tests when all other options have been exhausted.

The ARK Foundation may assist with copayments and deductible amounts associated with medically ordered genetic testing only after insurance coverage has been denied or partially applied. Funding is available exclusively for tests prescribed by a licensed medical professional and deemed medically necessary for diagnostic purposes.

Families must provide documentation showing that:

• The test has been ordered by a qualified healthcare provider, and
• All other insurance or financial assistance options (including manufacturer or institutional aid programs) have been fully exhausted.

Support may include assistance with medically indicated genetic testing such as:

• Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS)
• Whole Exome Sequencing (WES)
• Targeted gene panels recommended for specific suspected conditions
• Carrier or diagnostic testing for the affected child when used to inform treatment or management

The ARK Foundation will not cover:

• Prenatal genetic testing of any kind
• Research-based or experimental testing not approved for clinical diagnostic use
• Testing performed without a licensed provider’s order or without demonstrated medical necessity

• The ARK Foundation will cover only copay and deductible expenses related to approved genetic testing.
• Payments are preferably made directly to the provider or testing laboratory whenever possible.
• Funding for genetic testing is available once per lifetime per family.
