Unexpected Medical Expenses Funding Guidelines

The ARK Foundation recognizes that even the most carefully planned care can bring sudden and unexpected costs. Families of children with chronic, complex, or rare medical diagnoses often face unforeseen expenses that insurance does not fully cover. We understand the emotional and financial strain these moments create, and we aim to offer timely support when it is needed most.

Funding under this category is reserved for families whose child has a chronic, complex, or rare diagnosis expected to affect them for a prolonged period of time. Assistance is available only after all other financial options—including insurance, Medicaid/HMK, hospital financial aid programs, or other community resources—have been fully exhausted.

The ARK Foundation may assist with a range of unexpected medical expenses directly related to the child’s care, including but not limited to:

• Emergency room or urgent care visits not fully covered by insurance
• Hospitalization costs or extended stays associated with acute complications
• Medically necessary imaging, procedures, or lab testing not covered by insurance

• Payments are preferably made directly to providers or institutions to ensure funds are applied correctly and promptly.
• The Foundation does not reimburse previously paid expenses under this policy.
• Families must provide itemized invoices or bills for verification before payment can be issued.

• Families may apply for assistance with unexpected medical expenses once per calendar year.
• Each family may receive this type of funding up to three times per lifetime.
